Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — often the SQL Monitor team will initially stay quiet about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

Create a threshold for how many times a job can fail before raising an alert.
We have jobs that fire every minute, or every 5 minutes - similar to heartbeat jobs. If the job fails once or twice, we don't care. If it fails 10 times in a row we do care.

See disk percentage free/used to Machine overview page
It would be useful to see disk percentage free/used on the machine overview page next to the used / allocated column. This would give us a quick idea of how full the machine's disk is percentage-wise without having to do the math elsewhere.

View queries against specific database in real time
View all running queries against a specific database with the details of the query and its duration.
This will help in monitoring a specific query in any particular time

global dashboard should handle multi-level groupings
Currently the global dashboard presents the SQL instance tiles according to their top-level group. So if I have 3 servers grouped such as:
App1
Prod
Svr1
Dev
Svr2
App2
Prod
Svr3it will present these under 2 groups: App1 and App2. This is fine if you're viewing all servers.
However when I filter the view to only show servers in the App1 group, I'd like the tiles to be grouped using the next level of grouping if there is one (in this case "Prod" and "Dev")

Alerts for suspect_pages
We would like to see alerts for suspected pages.
Errors Recorded in suspect_pages Table
The suspectpages table contains one row per page that failed with an 824 error, up to a limit of 1,000 rows. The following table shows errors logged in the eventtype column of the suspect_pages table.
Error description eventtype value
823 error caused by an operating system CRC error or 824 error other than a bad checksum or a torn page (for example, a bad page ID) 1
Bad checksum 2
Torn page 3
Restored (The page was restored after it was marked bad)…17 votes -
see sessions from sys.dm_exec_requests in top 10 queries
I never see commands like BACKUP DATABASE or ALTER INDEX in top 10 queries and got the message from support that the information is taken from sys.dmexecquerystats
As it is now it is hard to track down where heavy I/O comes from if it is for example index maintenance or backup.
I think RedGate should record all commands from sys.dmexec_requests and join in the execution plans where they exist and other stats if needed17 votes -
Provide Mobile version of Alert Monitoring Screen
It may be just me (since no one sle has yet to suggest this) but a mobile friendly version of SQL Monitor for the ALERTS tab would be of great benefit. Currently I check the ALERTS on my SMART PHONE which has a screen waaaayyyy to small to do this but since I have no tablet option I have no other choice.
A mobile option at login to SQL Monitor would let those with smaller sized computing devices acccess the ALERTS tab so as to monitor/check in on their SQL Monitor instance remotely.
Thanks
16 votesThere are currently no plans for a SQL Monitor mobile app. We hope to improve the experience when using SQL Monitor on a mobile device. However at the moment we can’t give a timescale for when this might happen.

When a custom metrics targets specific databases then only those database should be listed on the Analysis tab
Currently a custom metric is listed in the left most list box and the databases are in the right most. Some custom metrics are specific to a single database or a specific group of databases.
In either of these cases the database list in the last list box could be filtered to be only the databases that the metric relates to. This would save clicks and shorten the time taken to get to view the analysis trace.

Go to next alert once cleared
If you're clearing a few a alerts and need to review each one, it would be great if clicking cleared then loads the next alert.

be be able to send alerts to multiple Slack channels
At present I can only use one Slack channel for SQL Monitor. I'd like to be able to specify a channel per alert - for example I have a custom alert and it would be good to be able to send a message to a designated Slack channel

Please add overlay alerts and annotations on the Analysis page. This would simplify the analysis and finding correlations.

Search metrics on the Analysis page to enable quick way to add them
There are a lot of metrics in different groups on the Analysis page and searching for a single metric by scrolling through the list is becoming more and more tedious. Please create a way to search for the metric.

Enable extended events per server
Currently, enabling the use of extended events is a global setting.
It would be great if this could be enabled per server, to avoid well-documented issues (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2878139/fix-using-dbghelp-dll-version-4-0-5-error-is-logged-in-sql-server-2012) between extended events and older versions of SQL Server (namely SQL 2008 which is still in extended support until 2019)

Set alert rules on specific AG nodes
Our AlwaysOn AG groups are backed up from the secondary node (the preferred node). Not Backed Up alerts still show for the primary node. We would like to be able to filter these out.

Include Top N Worst Performing Stored Procedures and Functions
At my organization, we do a lot of tuning at the stored procedure and function level.
I would like a tab similar to the existing top 10 queries tab, that lists the CPU utilization, memory utilization and IO consumption of the top 10 worst performing stored procedures, and another tab that lists the top 10 worst performing functions. For each of the fields I would like to see both the totals, and the percent of total during the specified time period.
This will allow us to identify the stored procedures and functions to tune, and once tuned, it will allow…

Exclude System Databases (and potentially other user databases) from backup alerts
We would like the ability to exclude system database from the backup alerts, as we do not back them up. We have a system in place to script out security and sql agent jobs/schedules for each of our systems nightly. We also have been leveraging the dbatools PowerShell stack as a way to automate server migrations and other automation activities. Also, our tier one systems are in availability groups. Lastly, we do not backup everything in our lower level environments, as we perform nightly database refreshes for the majority of our systems. However, we do have some testing databases that…
