Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

In Redgate Monitor, I want to...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. deadlock frame procname text missing final character

    The SQL displayed under the frame procname for a deadlock is missing the final character of the SQL.
    e.g: and #ttable.StartDate is nul
    Should be
    and #ttable.StartDate is null

  2. Allow extended email addresses "xxx<myemail@yyy.com>" or custom prefixes for subject line

    I send my alerts to a tech-staff group and would like to add specific text for end users to filter all SQL monitor emails against. Either allowing extended email address like "xxxmyemail@yyy.com"
    or some global prefix that can be added to subject (or body for that matter). Right now I don't see any reference to redgate or sql monitor to distinguish it from other monitoring email I receive.

  3. Long running query alerts and daylight saving time changes

    many long running query alerts generated between 1 am and 2 am on Sunday 11/5, as the time change caused it to add an hour when calculating all the query times. Can the alert be adjusted to account for the time change?

  7. Share alerts via Email

    The ability to share alerts details via Email from the "Alert Details" page.

    Sometimes we don't want to share a direct link to the monitor.

    E.G
    Click "share" which will open a mailto: with the relevant alert details.

  8. scroll through the overview graph and zoom in/out

    It would be a lot easier if we could scroll through the overview graph and zoom in/out. For instance, on Monday morning I need to inspect a long (2 to 3 day) ETL job with 4 main parts. Currently I have to select the last timestamp I like to see in the graph and then select "Last 2 days". Then I can drag the sliders to highlight the area I want to investigate.

    It would be easier to click the graph and drag it left/right and use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out

  9. I would like to give aliases to queries for easy recognition

    I would like to be able to give an alias for a query text and have that alias show up on the top 10 list.

    This to enable easy recognition of "known offenders". We have a lot of queries that are almost identical and drilling into each of them to check the where clauses to determine the actual query is getting tiresome.

  11. Clone a report and change the server name globally within it

    I have crafted a report for my servers. I understand there's some behind-the-scenes scripting I can do to replicate a report, but the GUI could provide a "Clone Report" option, allowing me to change the server name reference on all the widgets. Sure would make deploying one extra server easy.

  12. SQL Monitor acquiring shared locks on objects

    Is it necessary for SQL Monitor to acquire shared locks on objects when monitoring a SQL instance?

    We experienced a deadlock on our system when SQL Monitor was trying to query a system table msdb..backupset at the same time that on of our maintenance plans was deleting backup history as one of its sub tasks.

    It would be nice if we could either set the isolation level per alert or if you guys would amend your code to use nolock query hints?

  13. Be able to report on current alert configuration at All Servers and Specific Servers/Instance levels

    Be able to run a report or create an output file that lists default and customized alert settings at All Server, Server and Instance level (Including notification setup).

    This is a common request from management and at this point the only option I can think is to setup a spreadsheet and start going through all the alerts.

  14. I would like to be able to install an update without having to change the browser port.

    I start with port 8080, when installing an update the port is "in-use" so I have to switch to port 8081, with the next update I switch back to port 8080.
    Surely the update should be smart enough to see there is a running process and either disable the web process until the update is finished, or make the update without having to change the port

  15. Be able to set an Alert to escalate when it has been active for a certain amount of time.

    I have a several different Jobs that fail periodically, once in a while is not a big problem but when they continue to fail over a period of time it does become a problem and I need to know. Likewise when I have an AG is slow to sync in the middle of the night when it is rebuilding all of the indexes of a 1.2TB database and syncing across to locations in 2 states I don't want to be paged, but if it is persistent through the day I do.

  19. Search for SPID for specific Date and Time

    I would be a good idea to have a functionality in SQL Monitor to search for SPID for specific Date and time. This will help us to review what query run by who on given date and time.

  20. Unlicensed Databases

    If a license is removed for a database, a banner at the top of the page shows up saying, "You have unlicensed servers. Unlicensed servers will not be monitored and will not raise alerts. Manage licenses | Manage monitored servers". And, on the "Configuration > Monitored servers" page the databases show with a red x, as Unlicensed, and a Manage licenses link.

    It is good that licenses can be removed for individual databases, however it would be better to be able to remove the databases once they are unlicensed, so that we don't have to have the banner and the…
