Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

I use SQL Monitor every day and use the failure reports for SQL Agent jobs, it is most useful. However, when there is an issue with an SSIS package that is automated via SQL Agent I have to leave SQL Monitor and go to SSMS. It would be really handy if SQL Monitor could read the SSIS errors. Is this something that is in the road map or could be put in please? Thanks.

Show/Hide metrics on Analysis page
Please add an option to show/hide selected metrics on the Analysis page. Something similar to the Reports graph would do.

Add support for Contained Availability Groups (CAG) in SQL Server 2022
This is actually a feature that broke with the new version. There is no ability to monitor SQL Agent Jobs.13 votes -
Add ability to monitor MongoDB instances on atlas
Though Atlas does supply its own monitoring tool - having the ability to have a single pane of glass for all services by having the ability to monitor MongoDB which are hosted on atlas within redgate would be beneficial

Suppress Notifications until turned back on
There are times where we are configuring and testing an instance or cluster and want to monitor it, but would like to prevent notifications being fired while keeping alerts - having the ability to suppress the notifications until we turn it back on would be handy and take less administration overhead than configuring the alerts for each instance/cluster

Collecting custom metrics for multiple databases at the same time
ATM, a custom metric can return one value, but sometimes collecting the metric for one database takes the same amount of time as collecting it for all of the databases.
Having a multi-database metric (maybe something that returns a database id -> value map (as a two col table)) would be especially useful if it takes a long time to collect the metric (in my case it takes nearly 30 secs to collect it).

Develop SQL Server Agent Job Status Alert
Add a new SQL Server Agent alert to monitor the status of a job. The ability to alert when a job is running longer than a specified time or has not run within a specified time. The current alert will only notify you after the job has stopped. This does not help when a job is hung.

Raise Free Space alerts on disks that are mounted, rather than simply drive letters/volumes
In our clustered environments, instances are given a small drive for mounting the larger data/log/etc volumes within them.
Whilst we always get a "disk full" warning on the mountpoint drives (subsequently disabled), there appears to be no ability to monitor the volumes that are mounted within, where we do care about free space.
I do see that metrics for IO, latency etc are done on a per volume (not drive letter) basis, so would be great if we could have consistency.12 votes -
Alerts to be automatically marked as cleared after 'X' days
Have an option so alerts can be automatically marked as cleared after a variable amount of days.
This would prevent us from manually clearing them down.12 votes -
Identify which Virtual Host a server is on
In our environment we have a number of different virtual hosts and clusters on which our servers are hosted. It would be quite useful if the SQL server summary information showed the name of the host and cluster on which it is being hosted. As well if host and cluster name could be displayed somehow on the analysis graphs that would be great.

Filter for VMWare virtual machine list under Manage VMWare hosts
Add a filter in the vmware host to list only monitored servers. On and off checkbox would be enough.

Limited Estate functionality for unlicensed server
I would like to have very very basic estate functionality for servers without a Monitor license (I'm thinking Express instances on developer's station, sandbox instance without any real databases, etc.).
It would only be to keep visibility on them, so that we don't need to keep an inventory in a separate source. If the edition and version could be included that would be even better but of course nothing about disk usage / backups / jobs, etc.
I realize that this is essentially asking for something for free but I would venture that keeping visibility on all instances might lead…

Backup overdue alert - RegEx filter
I have many non-production databases on production SQL Instance, that make no sense to backup. I know I can turn this alert off one by one on each database. RegEx filter by database name would be help.

silence alerts for x hours
If an alert is firing repetitively for say a job failure, to be able to silence the alert for a number of specified hours (not permanently) if you know it will recover later, but you don't want to disable the job - just want the alerts to stop temporarily

Separate notification option for both Medium and High Severity alerts
It would be better to have Separate notification options for both Medium and High Severity alerts instead of a single distribution for both Medium and High severity alerts so that separate group get notifications depending on the severity of the alert.

Database Tags
It would be great if, in addition to Instance Tags, we could assign tags to individual Databases as well. This could help in various ways in trying to determine what the purpose is of the vast number of databases we need to monitor and manage.

be able to add individual machines instead of an entire cluster
Right now when adding a node to Redgate Monitor and if it's part of a cluster, the entire cluster is added (even when switching off the auto-discovery of the clustername as this is only applied to the name itself).
Especially with large cluster estates, it's not possible to add a single node instead of the entire cluster.
This has impact on licenses, as the entire cluster needs to be licensed instead of each individual node that you actually want monitoring for.12 votes -
Add other Red Gate tools to SQL Monitor as licensed modules
It would be useful if the following tools were additional modules that could be added to the web interface to SQL Monitor;
SQL Backup Pro
Index ManagerFor example, upon receiving a no database/log backup alert it would be great to just click into another section of SQL Monitor to then diagnose/fix the issue rather than using an external application. Additionally the capability within Index Manager would sit well in SQL Monitor as a logical extension for the fragmented index alert.
This would allow SQL Monitor to be the primary place that a DBA would need to go in order…

Analysis Thresholds
One of the things I like about the free PAL tool, is that you can specify thresholds for each performance counter. Therefore, you can have a customizable red line which appears on your graph to easily tell you if your disk latencies are over 25ms or your free memory is less than 5% - for example.
I would like to see something similar on the Analysis screen on SQL Monitor. I would like to specify for each machine, SQL Server or Custom metric a warning threshold and a critical threshold. This makes it easier to troubleshoot performance issues as you…11 votes
