Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

  1. Slack notification in more detailed

Slack notifies the alert, would be great to view complete details in slack specific to notified. This helps giving access to development for a slack channel to look into Long Running Query corresponding to database. without giving full access

  2. add more custom notifications

    1. Execute HTTP Action :

This notification method executes a GET request or sends any POST, PUT, or PATCH data to a custom URL. You can execute specific actions on a web server or control any web service that accepts commands via one-time HTTP requests. Whenever a notification of this kind is triggered, the HTTP action is sent.

    2. Execute Program:

With this notification method, you can execute a script or a program as an external process. It can be a Windows executable file or a BAT, CMD, or PowerShell file. You can use EXE, COM, BAT, CMD, VBS, or PS1 files.

  3. Limited Estate functionality for unlicensed server

I would like to have very very basic estate functionality for servers without a Monitor license (I'm thinking Express instances on developer's station, sandbox instance without any real databases, etc.).

It would only be to keep visibility on them, so that we don't need to keep an inventory in a separate source. If the edition and version could be included that would be even better but of course nothing about disk usage / backups / jobs, etc.

I realize that this is essentially asking for something for free but I would venture that keeping visibility on all instances might lead…

  4. Manage Scheduled SQL Monitor Reports from one overview page.

It's easy to set up a new report and schedule for SQL monitor reports. But once schedules are created it's difficult to manage them.
Have an overview page that would allow you to see all that has been scheduled .... giving options to:
    1) Delete individual schedule (e.g. following server decommission or server no longer monitored).
    2) Edit individual report schedule ... e.g. change time / frequency and for a particular type of report change the target server for that report ... i.e server replaced, being able to move report from reporting on original server report created for to replacement…

  5. Blocking process report does not display database name

I would like to see databasename and also starttime and endtime in the blocked process report. It qwould also bee good to be able to scale the picture in size.

  6. Ignore Negative Custom Metric Collection

I am trying to add a custom metric based on the sys.dmosperformance_counters DMV. These are very useful for gaining Instance Level information. These counters increment as each lock is requested. I have used the “Use a calculated rate of change between collections” option which accurately depicts the graph I am trying to accomplish. The caveat is that these counters are reset to 0 when the instance is restarted. Therefore in any of my graphs, I get this huge negative value. This basically renders the metric useless because I cannot visualize any metrics once a server is rebooted.

  7. MONITORING ERROR (SQL SERVER DATA COLLECTION) more infromation

Is it possible to list the items that failed in the alert?

In the description for this alert it notes that one or more of the following connection methods failed:
    WMI
Remote registry (PerfMon and registry access)
Remote file access is not set up (hidden administrative shares should be enabled)
    SQL connectivity

Is it possible to note in the alert details which one failed? It would make troubleshooting after the fact a bit easier.

  8. be able to move database to another server

Sometimes I need move database to another server. I did it last time and I lost access to historical data. Moving databases is very common practice.
I think it is a big disadvantage.

  9. Show alert bubbles in other metrics, too

I like seeing the alert bubbles in the main overview. It would be helpful to also be able to see them in the additional metrics shown below. Anothe option would be to align these other metrics with the main 4-metric window.

  10. Add waits, CPU, & IO to the "sort by" options on the Global Dashboard.

Currently there are only two choices to sort by for the Global Dashboard screen:

    Name & Severity

It would be nice to add more options, as they are displayed in the tile view. The options of course would be waits, CPU, & IO.

  12. Integrate with Policy Based Management

It would be really good to integrate with Policy Based Management to raise status alerts in SQL Monitor, that way we could breakout more complex Instance status

  14. Exclude a database, instance or the entire alert based on an actual alert

It would be a nice feature to be able to click on an alert and get the option to exclude future alerts:
1 - for this specific database
2 - for this specific instance
3 - for this specific alert

  16. Estate Disk Usage Emailed Report

It would be great if we could schedule an emailed report of the disk usage estate section.

  17. Show login or user in the Top 10 Queries

Include login or user id information in the Top 10 Queries. This could help identify if a user is running an ad-hoc query.

  18. Sort top queries by logical reads, or cpu usage.

Same idea that is already being done with duration. These are the 3 aggregates most commonly used. Being able to sort by avg vs total would be ideal. Performance Reports in SSMS can do this, so that idea.

  19. SQL Agents Job Display Time Windows that Jobs are executing

The SQL Agent Jobs screen is a great way to track all jobs across all monitored servers. I think it would be helpful to see the gaps of time that no job is running to help determine maintenance windows and also make sure that the jobs are properly spaced out.
