Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

In Redgate Monitor, I want to...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

    It would be a great feature to have SQL Monitor suggest efficiency recommendations the way that vRealize Ops Manager does, which is basically a tool you point at the environment and it shows you efficiency recommendations. Rather than having to perform time consuming manual analysis.

  4. Show Compressed Backup size on Estate > Backups Screen

    Currently the backup size displayed on the Estate > Backup screen is the uncompressed backup size which is useful but it would also be useful to include the compressed backup size because that's going to be the raw file size on disk when backup compression is enabled.

    Knowing the compressed backup size is pretty useful when trying to assess how big a backup will be on disk.

  5. Report - Longest running queries: Include Stored Procedure name

    Please include the name of the stored procedure (where applicable) in the report of "Longest running queries".
    Currently I need to use SQL Search to find the procedure that includes the query.

    You can do a LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.objects using objectid to find the name (objectname) of the originating stored procedure.

  6. Add waits, CPU, & IO to the "sort by" options on the Global Dashboard.

    Currently there are only two choices to sort by for the Global Dashboard screen:

    Name & Severity

    It would be nice to add more options, as they are displayed in the tile view. The options of course would be waits, CPU, & IO.

  7. silence alerts for x hours

    If an alert is firing repetitively for say a job failure, to be able to silence the alert for a number of specified hours (not permanently) if you know it will recover later, but you don't want to disable the job - just want the alerts to stop temporarily

  8. Be able to give users different access to different groups

    I would like to be able to give some developers Read-only access level to some servers (or server group). For example Production servers.

    But give them Standard access level to other servers (or server group) so they can clear alerts for example and configure their own alerts.

  11. exclude databases from alerts with a named pattern

    Some of our databases are named "XXX_Database", the "XXX" indicating that it should not be monitored. It would be nice to exclude those from alerts based on a given naming pattern.

  12. Maintain Base Monitor Service Account between upgrades

    Everytime you upgrade the base monitor (every 2 weeks), the service account that is configured to run the service gets reset to "Local System".

    We have setup our system to run as a domain user to changing this everytime is painful.

    The installer should respect the current user when upgrading.

  13. Remove node from sql monitor for sql clusters

    If i have a SQL cluster that has a non SQL witness I would like to just remove it so it does not get pulled into the warning system or the dashboard.. i in my case am using a NAS machine as a witness to the cluster.

  15. ADD Support for GCP Cloud SQL (MSSQL managed instances)

    As Google Cloud Platform increases their market share and adds features such as managed instances for Microsoft SQL Server, it would be great to have the ability to monitor those as well.

    Alert types to have a option to send email to an alternate email id after office hour as that the Data center will be notified and inform the DBA of the issue . the email will be only send after the office hour to this email id

    For Installed Version doesn't show the patching details of the passive node of FCI
    So if cluster has 3 nodes, you should one line for each
    this will be very helpful if we have missed out on patching inany node then the SQL Monitor can high light this to us

  18. Requirement of more reports as described below

    Can have the following reports

    1)fragmentation level of the indexes in all the databases in all the servers .It can be tabular format with each of the current information as column and all servers and its info as row

    2) Server summary for all the servers (in a table format )

    3) Replication status of all the servers in the estate

    4) Permission of users in dbs in all the SQL Instance

    5) To see the compliance level based on a CU or patch for all the servers . It is more like I can choose a CU or patch…
