Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

  2. Alerts with and/or (boolean) logic

To determine performance problem b it is needed to monitor several counter values at once. For example when counter x and counter y and counter z are all below 10 then you have a memory problem. I would be nice to contruct that kind of logic to get true performance alerts.

  3. Collect SQLServer:Memory Manager counters.

This would be especially useful for SQL 2012 where counters have been removed from the buffer manager exist in the memory manager counters. For SQL Server 2012, I have observed that there is a memory leak and this is revealed by observing the Memory Manager Optimizer Memory (KB) counter.

Hi, we’re monitoring a few of those out of the box and the rest can be covered via the custom metrics feature – check out sys.dm_os_performance_counters

  4. UI global overiew - add tickerbox with unread alerts

To get a instant view of the unread alerts and their context/importance it might be a good idea to create a tickerbox at the leftmenu of the global overview page.

Currently to know what kind of alert has occured, I have to zoom in/navigate everytime to the alert page.

Layout example: Grouped by server, level, category, datetime

As addition it might be an option to create a tickerbox hide option .

    (Gathering feedback)

Hi brendo, how would you expect the tickerbox to behave if there is a large volume of alerts incoming? Would you expect to always see the x most recent ones, or would you like to be sure that all alerts show up in this tickerbox over time?

  5. How about a custom metric or alert to return data in character value as opposed to just numeric scalar or NULL

I want to have a function much like profiler to collect login data, who logged on & be able to filter on the data collection, for instance, if I only want to see when domain\me connects to the sql server, I would like to track that information. I am aware this can be done with profiler, but I would really like to have the ability to use one tool.

  6. Option to exclude custom metric from Analysis Graph page

When setting up a custom metric, have the ability to exclude it from the Analysis Graph page. E.g. I set up a metric that checks the AutoUpdateStatistics setting for each database and then creates an alert if a database is set to OFF for this setting.
It is however not needed in the Analysis Graph page as it is purely an alert.

  7. custom group order

I'd like to be able to pick an order of my groups... dev, prod, staging in alpha I'd prefer to see prod, staging, dev.

  8. Add more visibility to captured system processes

A view of all system processes is available whenever an alert is clicked. It would be nice to get the same view of system processes with their CPU and memory consumption for a specified time even of there is no alert to click on at that time.

  9. Add % CPU Usage column for the "User SQL processes (top 10 by CPU usage)" section.

On the Overview page for the SQL Server instance there is a section: User SQL processes (top 10 by CPU usage) that show current SPIDs that are utilizing CPU resources. This section should show the actual % of CPU usage for that SPID.

  10. Add number of alerts to browser tab

I always have SQL Monitor open as one of the tabs on my browser (Chrome). What might be useful is to change the text of the tab (only when it is set to Global Overview) to include the number of alerts (unread or uncleared I'm not sure.....) - much like if you have Gmail inbox open, then any unread items make the tab text "Gmail - inbox (1)'

  11. Show all of the cluster disk's collected statistics regardless of active node

Currently, a cluster disk's collected statistics are only visible for the duration of being "active/owned" by a cluster node. If I ran on Node A for the last month and fail-over to the B node today then I lose all visibility to the prior month's stats since they were collected while on the node A.
