Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate SQL Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve SQL Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on SQL Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — often the SQL Monitor team will initially stay quiet about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the SQL Monitor forum.

I want to be able to document in SQL Monitor why an alert is set a certain way.
On the alert configuration screen for any alert, at any level I would like to see a comment type box where I can enter in the box the reason the alert is set as it is.
For example if I have disabled the backup overdue alert for a particular database I would like to be able to save that reason in this comment box. Or if I have changed the disk space usage for a particular drive on a server different than the default I want to be able to document the reason why.
I want to see this box…
21 votesThank you for this suggestion, it makes sense to want to record why certain configuration changes have been made.
We released this enhancement in version 8.0.10 (in July this year – apologies for delay in updating this suggestion).
I will mark this suggestion as Completed, but please do reply if you have any further feedback.
Thanks,

export selected alerts
it would be nice if we could export selected alerts (for instance full deadlocks related information) to forward to our "partner" so they can analyse the problem.
21 votesThanks for this suggestion. SQL Monitor 10 now makes it easier to create and share reports of recent types and severities of alert. Please see What’s New in SQL Monitor 10 for more details (https://www.red-gate.com/hub/product-learning/sql-monitor/whats-new-in-sql-monitor-10).
Thanks,

Webhook notifications need to be configurable at an alert level
While Webhook notifications is a cute idea, it has no value to me if I can't customize what alerts get it. Please add a Webhooks column to the individual alert settings.
20 votesAs of SQL Monitor 11.1.8 Webhook notifications can now be enabled and disabled for alert types.
This can be done within the alert settings page for each alert type (see screenshot).

Azure ad intergration
My wish is that my users can sign-in with azure user account.
19 votesThis can be achieved by using OpenID Connect authentication with Azure Active Directory. See https://documentation.red-gate.com/sm/adding-sql-monitor-users/authenticating-with-openid-connect and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/auth-oidc for more information.

Commit to supporting Linux in some way
Linux is the future of sql server. If you've not deployed SQL 2019 AlwaysOn on Kubernetes I'd highly suggest you do. The install is lightning fast compared to clunky Windows installers of the past. I really feel like Redgate is taking a slow poison by not getting on this sooner. Honestly most of the metrics in sql monitor come from the internals of sql. All we really need from Linux is probably free disk space and cpu.

Monitor a failover cluster in Azure
I have two failover clusters in Azure using ClusterSharedVolume storage, migrated from terrestrial clusters.
I've been using SQL Monitor to monitor all aspects of these clusters but now I've migrated to Azure, the monitor can't connect (I believe it's to do with the inability to ping the cluster load balancer in Azure).
I'm sure, as more and more of us migrate to cloud services, that covering an Azure cluster would be most welcome.18 votesSQL Monitor versions 7.1.6 and above support SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances and AlwaysOn Availability Groups hosted in Azure.
There are lots of ways in which Azure clusters can be configured, so If you’d like to suggest how we could improve the feature, please drop us a line at sqlmonitorfeedback@red-gate.com

Skip warnings on Database Snapshot Backups
I'm seeing warnings about backups not getting done on snapshots. Obviously it's not looking at the type.

Include drive letter in subject and body of disk space alert email
It would be helpful to know which drive (by letter) the alert information detail is about in the email. The drive letter should be included in the subject line such as Disk space | ServerName | E:\ as well as in the body of the email. This information helps identify the problem drive without having to go to SQL Monitor for that information.
15 votesThis enhancement will be in the next version of SQL Monitor

Add "Re-send Email" for an Alert
Some emails find black holes. Need option in the "Actions" dropdown to re-send an Alert email. Please pop-up the addressee dialog so we can direct/redirect to recipient list and add a custom subject to help us segregate the email into an email thread for discussion/attention.
15 votesVersion 9.0.7 has now been released and adds the ability to manually send an alert as an email notification to any addressee.
We will mark this as completed, but please do raise a suggestion if you would like to see further improvements.

Stop being nagged about maintenance windows - because they don't fit our operation
The nag about "you haven't set up any maintenance windows" is something you could allow us to turn off. Period.
SQL Monitor's simplistic feature does not tie in with the way Rackspace performs their patching, so the feature is useless and the nag is annoying as it keeps on coming up and we keep on dismissing it.
Please, give us a "Turn of maintenance window reminders globally" option - it can't be that hard to do...
15 votesHi,
SQL Monitor 7.1.11.9625 has been released to check for updates and contains a fix for this bug (SRP-11455 fixed an issue where some informational messages were not dismissible).
Please do let us know if you continue to see this issue. Thanks for your patience.

Single sign on
Make it so that I can add an AD group to the settings, then enable AD Auth in IIS and not be prompted for username and password.
LDAP settings should not be needed.15 votesSupport (at) red-gate.com can provide you with instructions how to disable SQL Monitor authentication in order to fall back on IIS authentication, which supports Single Sign On.

Add an alert to monitor failed logins.
The sql logs show failed logins, could we have an alert for this?
15 votesHello,
We are happy to announce that ‘Failed SQL Server logins’ metric is now available. Please install it from http://sqlmonitormetrics.red-gate.com/failed-sql-server-logins/

Improve the performance of the user interface
When I access the user interface (hosted on IIS) it is quite slow to use.
It frequently takes several seconds between clicking on something and things happening. It does not appear to be a resource problem, as both the IIS/Monitor server and the database server has plenty of resources to spare.
14 votesI’m marking this as “closed” seeing as performance improvements will be indefinitely be delivered, so it would never make sense to consider this work “done”.

In an AlwaysOn environment with backup preferences is set to Primary, I do not want the alert for Backup overdue and Log backup overdue
is it possible to remove backup alert on not readable databases in an AlwaysOn environment

Add the calling module/process in "Blocking process" alerts
In the Details tab of a Blocking Process alert the process name of the blocking process is included. It would be very useful if this was included in the "Blocked process" info on the processes tab. This would assist us in working out what it is that the blocked process is trying to access because the SQL fragment is often too generic to be useful.

Azure AD modern authentication for SQL Monitor
Be able to login into Redgate SQL Monitor using AAD with multi-factor authentication
13 votesThis has been possible since v11.2, by authenticating using OpenID Connect. That version was released June 2021 (apologies for it taking until now to close off this UserVoice issue). See here for more details: https://documentation.red-gate.com/sm/adding-sql-monitor-users/authenticating-with-openid-connect.

Add the ability to create new alerts
Instead of limiting the available alerts to a pre-defined list, allow users to create new alerts and threshold metrics based on customized queries. In my opinion, this is about the only glaring omission in the current version of sql Monitor.
