Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

I would like alert sounds.
Every product I have used in the past allowed for an Alert sound that you could turn off and on. I get that this is annoying to some people but for certain alerts I like to have a sound on them because I am not LOOKING at RedGate or my email, but I always have RedGate open. So setting any High alerts to a certain sound let everybody in the office know that there was an issue.

Create custom user roles
We would like to create custom roles to grant granluar access to specific functions/features in RedGate SQL monitoring console. Currently, permissions can be granted on monitored objects not on functions except using existing Reporting and Viewer only roles. There is no option to grant Estate access to selected team members or groups.

ERRORLOG tab on Alerts
When we are viewing an alert, it would be nice to have a view into the ERRORLOG at that point in time. If we could have the option of adding an ERRORLOG tab under the Performance Data section on each alert, that would be handy.

Display maintenance windows on timeline
When looking at the timeline graph with the CPU/IO/Waits stats it would be very nice to see the maintenance windows, for example as a difference background color.
This would help immediately recognize why IO is spiking for example. I realize that can also be accomplished with the Baseline for regular maintenance but I don't see it as mutually exclusive since a maintenance window can be configured at any time.3 votes -
Control the delay before getting "Error on Base Monitor"
We have perhaps a unique use case where one of our Base Monitors is at a remote site with a very high latency (700+ ms). Monitoring works surprisingly well since one of the later updates but unfortunately we are getting regular “Error on Base Monitor” emails (10+ per day) even though the connection itself is stable (just very slow).
We would like to be able to control the delay before that error is raised, I’m guessing that slightly increasing this "timeout" would fix all our issues.3 votes -
In SQL Monitor, I want to use a variable description in a custom alert.
Some custom metrics could be about things like a specific disk, job or DB-object. At this moment it's not possible to specify those in a generic Alert.
If besides the metric value a descriptive value was allowed, it would be possible to parse the descriptive value into the Alert.3 votes -

Trigger a device check-in via powershell
We use powershell scripts to shut down and start SQL services before and after maintenance. The scripts create a suppression window before and after as well. However, if the suppression window is removed too soon after the services are up, alerts are still fired because SQL Monitor thinks the server is still down. We workaround this by adding a delay in the scripts, but it's annoying to sit and wait for it. I'd like to be able to force SQL Monitor to check in with the server before removing the alert suppression window.

Add Active/Ended as SELECT drop-down options for Events
The current Alerts page Select drop-down has None/All/Read/Unread
For events, such as Disk Space, being able to Select "Ended" to get rid of the noise, helps focus on what needs to be addressed.
If the list doesn't have any Event-type row, don't offer this pair of options.
3 votesWe’ll look into this. In the meantime you can set-up a custom filter for Active or Ended events and use the ‘Select All’ to select these rows.

See job history beyond one month
Currently the Estate Job page only offers a view of a day, week or month, but sometimes we need to see trends beyond one month.
Is it possible to add a variable window? Or a fixed one of a year?3 votes -
Increase SQL Monitor email Alerts to larger than 400 KB
We have some alerts for important servers that require you to login to SQL Monitor to see the full details because they exceed 400 KB. The alert currently reads:
"Details
Details omitted because they exceeded 400KB. Please log into SQL Monitor to view them.
View full alert details
Configure alert"Please increase this value so that we can see the full alert details within an email instead of having to login to SQL Monitor to see them.
Thank-you!

Update the password of the account with powershell module
I do not want to use the base monitoring account, to monitor the different databases. So I need to use a separate account for that. In order to regularly be able to rotate the password of this account, I would need the PowerShell module be updated with a function to update the password.

azure overview
Azure SQL databases display differently than SQL server databases on the overview page, which makes them difficult to see. And even with the Azure SQL databases, there are further differences if the databases are members of elastic pools or not.
Please change the Overview Page to either a) show them more consistently, since there's no other indication of what's different.
or b) rearchitect the way Azure SQL DBs are displayed on the overview page so it's clear they are Azure SQL and that would also give you the ability to show them whatever way makes the most sense for the…3 votes -

SQL Monitor to Authenticate Directly with Office 365, Exchange Online
Hello, it would be great if SQL Monitor could authenticate directly with Office 365 rather than having to use an on-premises SMTP server. Exchange Online is probably the most widely used email service for business and the application is unable to successfully authenticate with it. Thanks.
