Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

  1. To have more granular filter options for historical query investigation

After selecting an instance from the main Overview screen and scrolling down to the bottom to select a specific database, I would like Redgate Monitor to be able to:

    1) Provide the option to filter further to the database schema if desired.
    2) Irrespective of what is selected above, see at least the top 100 Maximum Results in the small drop-down box instead of being limited to 50.
    3) Irrespective of what is selected above, see more information about the originator of the query - i.e. user, login, application, host name etc.

  2. A Postgres 'monitor' that can't track blocking is not fit for purpose

We bought licenses for our Postgres RDS instances off the back of good experience with SQL Server. Wow are we disappointed. The glaring lack of something so basic as the ability to alert on blocking sums it up, a scenario made even worse by the fact that I am able to make custom metrics and alerts for this (just though, they're very limited).

Feels like the increasing breadth of dB platforms available means the quality is suffering.

  3. Ability to see the deadlock graph in email alert

Today, the deadlock alerts for MS SQL Server instances are a pain to read because of the deadlock graph XML within. I would like to either see the deadlock graph (prerendered on the server as an image) or a more readability summary instead of the XML

  4. Extend Configuration list for configuration change alert

We get a lot of configuration change alerts from our Postgres clusters like:

synchronousstandbynames: Changed from ANY 1 ("xxx-postgres-1","xxx-postgres-3","xxx-postgres-2") to ANY 1 ("xxx-postgres-1","xxx-postgres-2","xxx-postgres-3")

It would be great if the list for custom rules could be extended with this setting so we can ignore changes to it or even support adding custom names (so you don't have to add each and every setting known)

  5. directly jump from a report to the server details

In a report, I have a "Longest running Queries Summary Tile":

To find the cause of the problem, I currently have to go back to the Overview, find the correct server, navigate to "Top Queries," and then locate the correct SELECT statement (copying the SQL from the report didn't work). Only then can I view the Explain Plan and check Redgate Monitor's suggestions.

Instead, It would be great if the tiles in reports had links – especially the Summary Tiles. I would like to be able to jump directly from the Summary Tile to the Top Query or any other…

  6. Get notification for when a SQL Agent job is in a retry state

Hi, it would be really useful if SQL Monitor could identify when any currently executing job steps are in a retry state. We have many such jobs and the time lost whilst they are in such a state is frustarating as if we had notification we could take action. I appreciate I can roll my solution but would be nice if SQL Monitor could do it :)

  7. Ability to export backup history detail for providing audit information easily.

possibilities I can think of that might help to add are each backup having it's own export button when the backup history graph is expanded out, including the backup history on the current excel sheet or possibly having a summary report for it in the Reports section
