Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

Shorten the focus window from 15mins to 1min
I want to be able to apply a shorter timescale to the focus window, 15mins is far too long on a very busy system.
I would like to be able to put a start / end date/time instead of selecting a time and then x hours before that

Customize alerts at the host level in a windows cluster
Currently you cant customize host level alerts at the host level only at the windows cluster level.
A few scenarios where this is needed :-
Always-on cluster where one node is for the application and you have a read-only secondary for reporting. I need to be alerted for the application node for high CPU, but the report server is usually often hits 100% CPU during business hours.
Multi node regular failover cluster with different application owners. 3 nodes, app1 lives on node1, app2 lives on node2, node 3 is a passive node for both. Alerts for app1 need to go…

Have a custom message added to alerts
When an alert is emailed, I want to place an action (possibly including an html link) as a comment on the alert.
This would allow the recipient of the alert to solve the issue directly.

Long-running query Alert - time based parameters
I need to disable monitoring long running queries at night.
My proposal is that you could add new parameter to alerts
Time from - Time to which will exclude monitoring during this time. That will help to exclude ETL - ssis, and other long rununig queries which we set up at night.

Suspend Monitoring of Individual Cluster Nodes
Alert suppression windows can be applied to groups, clusters, instances, and machines - including individual cluster nodes. Howerer it seems it is only possible to suspend monitoring for instnaces or clusters not individual nodes,
We recently had a hardware fault and it would have been helpful to suspned monitoring of a specific node whislt the engineer resolved the fault.

With the AG Groups it would be good to have soft alerting on configurations
With the AG it is possible to have different configuration on the server replicas. We mostly get caught out with Logins. but have had issues with XMLBlob size, linked servers and Server Master Keys.
It would be good for monitor to alert (or be able to alert) if a Login does not exist on both (all) replicas. we have times when a quick addition through SSMS does not put the same login on all side. when fail over occurs we then have broken processing. It would be good for sids to be checked as well as this is another issue…

Attach Custom Documentation To Alerts
I'd like to be able to customize things like an alert that job X has failed with a link to our own documentation on how to troubleshoot that job. It would be even better if these links could carry forwards into the slack notifications but even just having them on the alert page in SQL monitor for that particular alert would be immensely useful.

Add a process that automatically checks to see if a stand-alone SQL Instance has become an Always-On Availability Group
There is a stand-alone SQL Instance that is being successfully monitored by SQL Monitor.
The SQL Instance importance has increased and the SQL Instance becomes an Always-On Availability Group. This change is not detected by SQL Monitor.
The work around is to remove the SQL Instance from being monitored and re-add, the SQL Instance for monitoring so that the change is detected.
Add a process that automatically checks to see if a stand-alone SQL Instance has become an Always-On Availability Group or has been removed from a Availability group to become a stand-alone instance once again.

Dashboard view for multi-instance environment
We have multi-instance SQL Server on one VM.
Today on dashboard we have waits for instance, and we need processor usage for instance also.We would prefer to have on tile:
1. Waits for instance
2. Procesor for instance
3. Disk i/o for instanceWe should have also tile which grup all instances into machine. On machine tile we shoul have the same information as for instance but measuers would count machine indicators.
There would be also great if You would add new dashboard view for multi instance environment.
My proposal for view in atachment (I am not a professional…

See job history beyond one month
Currently the Estate Job page only offers a view of a day, week or month, but sometimes we need to see trends beyond one month.
Is it possible to add a variable window? Or a fixed one of a year?6 votes -
Have option to keep the base instance name in display for availability groups
We have the option to choose between Windows cluster name and FCI network name for FCI. However, in an Availability Group scenario, every instance is being show by the cluster name first, which is obviously the same for all of them. This makes it difficult to identify the correct one when you need to look at a specific instance. Would like to add this as a configuration option so that clustered AG servers we can also choose whether to use cluster name or instance name as display

Being able to filter "TOP Queries" by any of the columns
On the "TOP Queries" grid we can order it by any of the columns (besides "Database").
I would like to be able to filter the rows by the amounts.
Example:
Filter queries where "Execution count > 100" same for other columns.
Then apply the "order by".This way we can filter together with the "Enter search term" box.

Mask sensitive data from deadlock and top queries
We want to let developers use SQL Monitor, but for that sensitive data has to be masked. Two places that come in mind where we can things like literals in WHERE clause etc are deadlock and top queries. This would ideally be combined with a security group which which the masking should apply.

Tags in "About" section are viewable, but not selectable or copyable
The tags in the about section in a monitored Server are viewable, but not copyable.
We use tags for the category or a contact person or person of charge or additional information hints. This information as tags are a easy appoachable and fast way to see those information from a sql server.
But there is no easy way to copy the content of a tag. You can easily drop a tag or create a new tag, but is impossible to select/copy (somehow select + right click + copy or select + ctrl c) the content of a tag.

Improvements to Alert Notifications when you have multiple alert thresholds
You can configure alerts in Regdate Monitor to have different thresholds (low, medium, high). The problem is that all notifications have to go to the same email address(es).
We'd suggest an improvement to allow diffent notification methods for each level. For examples, send low alerts go to one email address and medium/high go to a different email address.
This would allow us to send the more critical alerts via OpsGenie/Jira.

Allow the reports to use all the data my retention policy allows.
Generating reports seems to limit it to 30 days of data. For trending we would like to use all the data our retention policy allows. Not sure why there is a limit.
