Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

  1. It would be nice to be able to exclude names of databases to be backed up instead of un clicking them one at a time .

It would be nice to be able to exclude names of databases to be backed up instead of un clicking them one at a time .
This should be similar to the long running queries where you have the option to exclude.

  2. Include more details regarding a disk space usage/free report

What I'm looking for is that for today, the D: drive is this filesize, e.g. 500gb. Once the report runs again the following week, it is 505 gb and so on. Then it would summarize that there is a differential of 5 gb which is the growth.

  3. know who ran SQL Compare and what changed

within SQL Monitor when it flags that SQL Compare ran, it would be good to be able to see who ran the job and what was changed. Currently the job is flagged in SQL Monitor but there seems to be no further details other than what database it ran on.

  4. User Defined Analysis Templates

Wouldn't it be nice to have the option of saving a view of multiple counters under Analysis?

  6. Cluster Roles that have been renamed should no longer have an entry with the old name

Over the last year and a half I have migrated several SQL FCI's to new windows clusters, new hardware, windows and SQL versions. To accomplish this with minimal downtime I had to setup the cluster roles ahead of time with everything ready to go prior to doing a final tlog backup/restore and rename of the cluster instances. This has worked well for us however SQL Monitor creates a new server record when the instance is renamed and never gets rid of the original name of the the new instance. This has left me with SQL Monitor still showing this nonexistent…

  7. Limit the number of backup entries listed for Estate Backup details

When viewing the backup details of a database in the Estate Backup view, the number of backups listed severly impact the usability. It seem to retrieve all backups done and stored in the SQL monitor DB or in msdb. As we have frequent log backups, this list is very long and heavy to retrieve and display.

  8. Allow linking directly to a screen/alert, but down to the specific page area expanded.

Be able to share links with colleages directly to the section of the site you are trying to direct them to. For example, I want to share an alert page, but on that page, I want to direct them to the "Top Queries" tab, and even into a specific query expanded.

  9. see my sizing per server (in Estate)

I would really like to have an extra column in Estate showing how much RAM and CPU are configured. Especially CPU information is important, because this determines how much licenses I need to maintain my Estate.

The extra column could be added between Versions and Status.

  10. Baseline WaitStats

SQL Monitor contains an aggregated baseline of wait stats, however there is no way to tell if the current wait stats are "normal" for my environment. For example, we had a problem where LCKMX went through the roof, and as a consequence HADRSYNCCOMMIT plummeted because there was fewer insert/updates/deletes happening. The net difference suggested that there was no problem, but there was.

I'd like to see something that shows what's "normal" for each wait type, and what the recorded value is.

  11. Customize Alerts on the Overviews Page

Allow for the customization of the Alerts in the Alerts section on the Overviews Page.
These customized alerts would be independent of the settings for the Alerts tab. That way Alerts would just be customized for the Overviews Page.

  12. Define limit of the specific job alert.

problem : a job is running in every 2 mins and failed due to any reason .it will fire multiple alert ,I would like to restrict the limit of the specific failure

solution :as we work in the shifts , I want it should not come more then 3 time which is in 8-9 hours duration .when I am setting the limit then it will impact to all server not the specific one . whereas I would like to check this monitor based on the time and then fire the alert

  13. Allow custom DML script deployments to show on SQL Monitor (like SQL Compare)

Write now, when you deploy with SQL Compare it puts this wonderful little tick mark in SQL Monitor to show the deployment location and time. We would like the ability to do this with SQL Multi Script or even manually via manual deployments.

  14. Click to open analysis from alert window

For some alerts, I like to see not only what happened before, but also what happened since. Some examples are disk space, or database file usage. The latter for example has a nice graph of the file usage up to the moment the alert triggered. But when I look at it the next day in the office, I also want to see what happened since - did the file continue to grow, has it been stable since, or was this a peak and is less space used now?
Currently that means going to the Analysis tab, selecting the correct server…

  15. Group instances, not servers

For example: when I have a database cluster running multiple instances I would want have the possibility to put one instance in a development group and another instance from that same cluster in a different group. In this way managing alert settings etc on a group level becomes much more convenient.

  16. Export options for "Head Blocker" diagram

The "Overviews | BLOCKING PROCESSES (TOP 10 BY TIME)" shows a really nice chart of the blocking chain. It would be useful if this could be exported to an image file and/or a CSV.

  17. Performance graphs on disk space alert page

When we get to the disk space alert details it shows -as with all alerts- a bunch of performance graphs like CPU utilization, disk queue length etc... I think the most relevant graph is missing for this particular case. It would be much more interesting to get a quick glance of the disk space growth over the last 24 hours or couple of dyas for example

  18. SQL Server Agent : Check the status of Agent XPs Server Configuration Option

    Subject : SQL Server agent

Context : At this time, SQL monitor only check the status of the windows service to monitor the SQL Server agent.
but do not check Agent XPs Server Configuration Option.

As a result, you could have a started agent, not able to launch any jobs and sql monitor will not raise an alert.

    Solution :

    • add a check of the column valueinuse in the sys.configurations table to ensure that Agent XPs is enabled when the agent service is started.

SELECT * FROM sys.configurations WHERE name LIKE 'Agent XPs'

  20. Dark Theme!

Would love to be able to have a Dark theme for the UI.

We use a number of other tools where this is an option and really appreciate the saving of the eyes from the sea of white/ other bright colours.
