Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

Restrict the read only role to only the "Overview" page.
I've explored using Read Only views for SQL Monitor and they work great, while really parring down the amount of information that the user can see. However, is there are way to lock it down even further so that they can only see the homescreen with the colored status on the specified SQL Instances? Essentially only allowing them to see status without drilling down into the instance itself and viewing waits, disk, CPU etc.
This could be used by management, etc.

Job execution in overview graphs
It would be nice if you in the Overview graphs could see SQL Agent Jobs, just like long running queries, deadlocks etc.
It could be good for troubleshooting high disk IO, CPU etc, if you could see that a job has started running at a point.I've tried to illustrate my idea in the attached file.

Search SQL Monitor Long Running Query Alerts By User Running Query
It would be very useful to search the Long Running Query alerts for a user? The alert text that is displayed in the GUI and in the alert emails list the user running the query. I have Monitor set up to only send the alert emails for my HIGH category. But, when I want to do analysis or documentation, I would love to find all of the alerts Low, Med or High, that are attributed to a specific user or a group of users. Is that possible? To filter the list in the UI to only show alerts from a…

Enable extended events per server
Currently, enabling the use of extended events is a global setting.
It would be great if this could be enabled per server, to avoid well-documented issues (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2878139/fix-using-dbghelp-dll-version-4-0-5-error-is-logged-in-sql-server-2012) between extended events and older versions of SQL Server (namely SQL 2008 which is still in extended support until 2019)

Support for showing multiple metrics with the same units on Analysis Graph
When showing more than one metric on a graph on the Analysis page, I fully understand that it is difficult to merge the units scales on the x axis. So what you get is each graph has it's 'own' x axis - and I get that - it makes sense when the units are incompatible (eg. percentage vs KB used vs batch/sec).
But when all the metrics are measure in the same units, it can create a visually confusing graph.
For example I'm looking at memory usage over time, so I've chosen Machine: memory used, SQL Server: total memory, SQL…

Add exclusions to Job Failing alerts
When a user deliberately stops a job while it's running, it fires a job failed alert. Add exclusion regex so we can add something like "The job was stopped prior to completion by User...." to ignore these.

Improve alert troubleshooting by showing sql server error log
When viewing an alert it may be helpful to see the error log for the server for the surrounding time. RAISERROR can log to the error log, so this info could be useful to see.

Show Job Description in Job Alerts
I'd like to see the job description in job alerts. We use this field in sql server to add notes about what the job does, who to inform on failure and rerun steps.

Create summary tile with alert search results
I'd like a summary tile to show failed jobs. To be more flexible, a functionality to save an alert search as a summary tile would be a nice feature.

Select what alerts i want to receive by Slack, the same way it happens by Email
Slack messages are a little annoying when all the alerts are sent by them.
I would like to configure the alerts i want to receive on slack. Today this is possible to configure in the e-mail option.8 votes -
enhance Title on Analysis Graph Page with "machine metrics"; "machine name"; (all)
Simply add to existing title with the selection of dropdown boxes as "machine metrics"; "machine name"; (all).
So we don't need to scroll down or include the bottom boxes to know which machine and options are being displayed...

SQL Monitor currently does not have customization on scheduling for custom metrics
SQL Monitor currently does not have customization on scheduling for custom metrics- only per min\5 min\hour basis.
the option to setup your own schedule could be given to users and setup your own frequency or metric collection.15 votes -
ssis
SQL Monitor currently does not monitor the execution of SSIS Packages.
It would be extremely useful if SQL Monitor would monitor the execution of the SSIS packages like it does the execution of SQL Jobs
E.g.
Alert if the SSIS Package Execution Fails
Alert if the SSIS Package is taking longer than normal to Execution
Alert if the SSIS Package fails to start41 votes -
Delay "Performance Data" Load for MOST Alerts
For at least 99% of Alerts of Interest over the last 6 YEARS of using SQL Monitor, the lower pane's "Performance Data" is of nigh on zero use.
IF it might be of use, give us a "Load..." button next to that heading, and load it on demand.
When I'm ploughing through a hundred or so predominantly Blocking Process and Deadlock alerts, the most important information is in the Details and Processes tabs.
Page loading delays will decrease because you won't have to pull eye-candy charts that aren't read for the bulk of the time.
The "Delay..." option, for me,…

In the ability to compare metrics with historic performance I would like to drop certain days (or hours)
Most of my SQL usage is a mon-Fri pattern so adding in the 2 weeekend days creates a much wider band of "normal" than is realistic. I would like to be able to create a pattern of timeperiods to add in to the comparison so I can drop out days (and maybe hours) which are not representative of "normal" running
