Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

In Redgate Monitor, I want to...

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

    Alert types to have a option to send email to an alternate email id after office hour as that the Data center will be notified and inform the DBA of the issue . the email will be only send after the office hour to this email id

    Groups to which emails can be added and removed so that this group will be added in alert setting . this help if any change in DBA join or leaving the company . Otherwise will need to update all the alert type . Exchange sever groups cant be used if these type of notification email are forwarded from SMTP servers outside their infra .

  3. For Installed Version doesn't show the patching details of the active and passive node of FCI

    For Installed Version doesn't show the patching details of the passive node of FCI
    So if cluster has 3 nodes, you should one line for each
    this will be very helpful if we have missed out on patching inany node then the SQL Monitor can high light this to us

  4. Requirement of more reports as described below

    Can have the following reports

    1)fragmentation level of the indexes in all the databases in all the servers .It can be tabular format with each of the current information as column and all servers and its info as row

    2) Server summary for all the servers (in a table format )

    3) Replication status of all the servers in the estate

    4) Permission of users in dbs in all the SQL Instance

    5) To see the compliance level based on a CU or patch for all the servers . It is more like I can choose a CU or patch…

  9. Separate notification option for both Medium and High Severity alerts

    It would be better to have Separate notification options for both Medium and High Severity alerts instead of a single distribution for both Medium and High severity alerts so that separate group get notifications depending on the severity of the alert.

  10. Report showing least or busiest server.

    I would like a report that uses the historical data collected by SQL Monitor that would show the least busy or busiest servers so that I will be able to plan where to put additional workload, or re-distribute work load.

  11. Show Compressed Backup size on Estate > Backups Screen

    Currently the backup size displayed on the Estate > Backup screen is the uncompressed backup size which is useful but it would also be useful to include the compressed backup size because that's going to be the raw file size on disk when backup compression is enabled.

    Knowing the compressed backup size is pretty useful when trying to assess how big a backup will be on disk.

  12. Change Overviews to Overview

    The "Overviews" menu item is grammatically incorrect. The menu item should be spelled "Overview". "Overviews" is most commonly used as a verb. The plural noun form is relatively uncommon and would refer to a general review or summary of multiple, distinct subject areas.

  14. Be able to run a query (or powershell) in response to an alert

    Be able to run a query (or powershell) in response to an alert.
    This would automate some responses, but also want to be able to send the RESULT of a script in the email that goes out, ie Alert to say Schema changes have been made where the email actually includes the schema changes.

  15. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication for login screen

    MFA is rapidly becoming a security standard. Redgate provides a map of the entire companies estate - which would be interesting to an attacker, it would be good if security could be tightened on that login process.

  16. Different email addresses for different thresholds

    Although you can specify different thresholds for High, Medium and Low alerts, they all end up at the same email address or slack channel. It would be useful to be able to change this so highs went to one address, mediums to another etc.

  18. Indicator that an active backup is ongoing on card

    Have some kind of indicator an active backup/restore header is ongoing, card or icon pulsating, shaded etc. This is handy to see at a glance if too many backups are going at once.

  19. Maintain Base Monitor Service Account between upgrades

    Everytime you upgrade the base monitor (every 2 weeks), the service account that is configured to run the service gets reset to "Local System".

    We have setup our system to run as a domain user to changing this everytime is painful.

    The installer should respect the current user when upgrading.
