Suggestions
Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.
This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.
To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:
- Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
- If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
- Give us as much context as possible
- Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
- Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!
If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

On the main dashboard please maintain a consistent ordering.
Dashboard element sorting should be fixed preferably in alphabetical order. The whole idea of a dashboard should be to provide an at a glance view of the state of your server set. When you change the order from servername when all is green to some other order because something has triggered an alert on a server I have to spend extra time figuring out which server has an issue because the sort order has changed.
1 voteVersion 6.0.11 has now been released and amongst the enhancements is the ability to fix the servers in alphabetical order (Oder by: Name).
If you have any feedback, email sqlmonitorfeedback@red-gate.com

When using Windows authentication I want the read-only account/group option.
I like the windows authentication but it doesn't have the read-only option. I would like to be able to add users and AD groups where I can limit the servers, but also make the data read-only, just like the options when not using Windows Authentication.
8 votesApologies for not updating the status of this suggestion. We have supported this since version 6.0.17. When adding an AD user or group, you can now choose whether that user should be a standard or read only user (or an administrator). So you can do this, and can also choose the permission level for each individual user, rather than having to define it for the system as a whole.
Thanks for your patience,

Push 5.2 Alias down to Analysis and beyond
The write-up about the 5.2 Alias feature waxes almost lyrical about how much we would like it...
Until you open the Analysis page and see the old names - in my case unintelligible I.P. addresses. Sad, very sad...
Please make Aliases utterly pervasive, as in Analysis, Configuration => Monitored Servers (I.P. list), emails (just to make sure they're not overlooked).
3 votesI’m closing this suggestion because the server aliases were fixed in v5.2.2.
However, there is currently no way to alias cluster/machine names, so if this is important, please do raise this as a suggestion as we could look to address that if there is demand

Bring back the ability to list fragments of T-SQL to reduce Blocking Process alerts, please
By FAR the largest number of abject NUISANCE Blocking Process alerts I get across 17 servers is due to a simple "How is fragmentation going?" query from a 3rd party product (Idera Defrag Manager).
Looks like this:
use [DBName] declare @indexId int declare @dbId int declare @tblId int declare @partitionId int set @partitionId = 0 select @dbId = ISNULL(DBID(),-1) if @dbId=-1 RAISERROR( N'Database does not exist or permission denied: %s', 16, 1, '[DBName]' ) else begin select @tblId = ISNULL(OBJECTID('[DBName].[dbo].[TableName]') ,-1) if @tblId=-1 RAISERROR( N'Table does not exist or permission denied: %s', 16, 1, '[DBName].[dbo].[TableName]' ) else begin…
3 votesVersion 6.0.16 has now been released and this includes the ability to add regular expression filters to blocking process alerts. We hope this completes your suggestion.
Thanks, SQL Monitor Team

Multiple group select on new Global Dashboard version 5.2
As an administrator, I want to be able to select one or more groups for displaying on the new global dashboard (added in version 5.2). Now you see all groups or one group.

Integrate SQL Monitor notifications with devices, ticketing systems and and other monitoring tools
CONTEXT: SQL Monitor is one of multiple tools I use to monitor my estate, such as SCOM, Tivoli, and OpenView. I would like to consoldate notifications from all of these tools
PROBLEM: SQL Monitor only sends human-readable email notifications, but other integration points like SNMP traps are not provided out of the box
EXAMPLE SOLUTIONS:
• Provide an SNMP demon against SQL Monitor's alerting data
• Make SQL Monitor send SNMP notifications out of the box
• Ability to send SMS or other push notifications
• Ability to "forward" an alert into a ticketing system127 votes -
Raise Alert level based on time
Currently all alert levels are based on the numbers allocated and the alert is simply triggered at that level,
Some of the values I'm tracking sit at 0 quite often, the problem is less the number but the length of time that it remains at that number
So after 5 collections i would like to raise a low alert, after 10 collections a medium and after 20 a high alert
Thanks for your time and concideration

3 votesHi this is planned for status alerts: https://sqlmonitor.uservoice.com/forums/91743-suggestions/suggestions/11123793-reduce-the-number-of-false-positive-status-alerts
For custom metrics that’s already possible via the custom metric wizard
Thanks

Check both full and differential backups for the overdue alert
As it is, the backup overdue alert will not check if a differential backup has been run.
Example: We have a database with simple recovery model that is set up to make a FULL backup every week, and a differential backup every day. If the alert level is set to "more than one day" then it will be triggered even though the diff backup has been run, indicating that it is not overdue.
We could set (and do that) the alert level to check only for "more than 7 days", but then we will not be notified if a diff…
26 votesThank you for this suggestion, and apologies for not updating sooner.
We believe this was solved when the Differential Backup Overdue alert was added in Version 8.0.7 (May 2018) . This alert is raised when entries for a differential or full backup in the [msdb].[dbo].[backupset] system table are older than the time you specify.
We will mark this as completed but please do let us know if you have any further feedback.
Thanks,

A version support page
Add a page on your site to list the current versions (liked to release notes) and all previous versions so we can easily see how many versions back we are or if we are at the latest one.

A report on the front page (Overviews) of the Sql service status
A report on the front page (Overviews) of the Sql service status (Datbase Engine,Agnet,Reporting Service And etc )
Using DMV "SYS.DMSERVERSERVICES"
This Report includes Columns For Example : ServiceName,Startup-Type ,Status-Desc And Last Startup Time
Tnx From Redgate Company Team
2 votesUnhealthy service statuses raise alerts in SQL Monitor, which will be surfaced on the front page (future work on the front page will make this more parseable in SQL Monitor 5.2)

Show job name not job ID value for job related alerts
When viewing SQL Agent job related alerts the identifier is the Id value stored in SQL Server, it would be more useful if this displayed the actual job name.

Description of Full scans/sec
In Explanation it says
"a lot of index scans may indicate missing indexes"I guess it should be "full scans" ?

increase or decrease the fill factor
Dear team.
I see some explanation on the sql Monitor live Demo tool which seems incorrect:
Check also: The fill factor percentage of the tables in your indexes. If enough space for index expansion is available on data pages, the potential for page splits is reduced. The default fill factor value setting is 0 (100%), which means that pages are filled to capacity. If you increase the fill factor, additional free space is left in the indexes after they are rebuilt or reorganized, helping to prevent excessive page splitting
increase should be decrease: the higher the fill factor the less…

Use extended events for deadlock "tracing" instead of a trace flag
If the SQL Server version is high enough, using extended events to capture deadlock information would be preferred to using a trace flag.
138 votesSQL Monitor now supports extended events.
We have had a further suggestion to enable this per-server rather than globally, which has been added as: https://sqlmonitor.uservoice.com/forums/91743-suggestions/suggestions/31754800-enable-extended-events-per-serverRegards,

Summary alert page ordered by active alert type with drill down to detail
In the previous red gate alert program it had a summary by each alert giving a quantity for the selected monitor period and one could then drill down to the detail for that specific alert in chronological order starting with the most recent - found this most useful - also gave a simple measure of occurrences over time which one could use to track the effectiveness of efficiency projects
2 votesThanks for the suggestion – we believe this has been addressed with the Grouped Alerts released in Version 7.1.18.
We will close this suggestion, but please do raise another suggestion if you have other specific improvements you’d like to see.
Kind regards,
Adam

Overlap
To analyse a trend over a period of say 30 days using one continuous line graph is difficult. If we could see a line for day 1, overlapped with day2, day 3 etc over the same 24 hour period then its easier to see trends and patterns e.g. processing time increases at 1pm everyday

Sort filter for manage server screen.
We have many development and test servers we want in our server list but not fully monitored. They were added to Monitoring after the production boxes, so they are on top of the list.
9 votesYou can use Groups to create filtered views of the Global Overview screen – improvements to that screen will mean that you won’t need to use the Manage Servers screen to inspect your system in the future.

Allow filtering out certain types of wait statistics (e.g. to remove benign ones)
As the title says. See Paul Randal's query for an example: https://www.sqlskills.com/blogs/paul/wait-statistics-or-please-tell-me-where-it-hurts/
Give us the option to control exactly which types are filtered out of results.7 votesThese are specified in the SQL Monitor database, as an entry in [settings].[KeyValuePairs]

Save 'Analysis' filters as favourite
It would be very helpful if I could save 'Analysis' graph after I select multiple counters. So the next time I could just click the Name and bring back the multi-counter analysis. In fact redgate can have some pre-canned favorites for Memory/IO counters etc. and others can contribute to different combinations of counters.
115 votesIn SQL Monitor 5.0.2 we have added the navigational state of the Alert inbox to the URL string, meaning that Analysis filters can now be bookmarked and even shared. If you use the “As above” function, reapplying the same set of metrics to a different server is a single-click operation.
