Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve Redgate Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on Redgate Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — the Redgate Monitor team will often stay quiet initially about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

If you have any questions visit the Redgate Monitor forum.

The most performance-relevant stored procedures and ad-hoc queries can be inspected with the “Performance Diagnostics” feature on the Instance and Database Overview screens. This information is also replicated in the Performance section of the alert details pages

  2. Add option for more detailed email alert

It would be good if there were more detail levels of mail alerts.
Example: I would like to see not only block process, but also which database and object; In case of failover, I would like to see both nodes failed and active ....

SQL Monitor V 3.3. has now released. This release contains improved subject lines and message bodies of alert emails to help you quickly understand problems before logging in to SQL Monitor.

    Thanks,
    SQL Monitor Development Team

  3. Allow configuration -> monitored servers to have configurable retries and wait timeouts.

We have a vpn between our sqlmonitor and several of our sql servers. I'm not sure how often sqlmonitor will retry or wait between retries when that vpn is unavailable due to any number of reasons. When the monitoring becomes unavailable, I would like to be able to allow sql monitor to retry every X seconds for up to X hours or X times as it attempts to reconnect.

As of SQL Monitor 5.0, the retry logic is much more robust, and most users have reported no more issues with SQL Monitor reconnecting

  4. Show prefered/active node on cluster

When runnning a database instance on a cluster it would be helpful if you could see on which phusical machine (node) the database instance is active on. It would be very usefull if that information was shown on the global overview page.

This can be seen on the Cluster overview page, in the instances grid – activeness and preferredness differ per FCI

  5. Periodically or manually request "check disk size" for when SAN Drives are reconfigured on the fly

We resized the log drive from 100GB to 170GB. SQL Monitor shows 100GB until the base monitor service is restarted.

Periodically, i.e., once a day, re-check disk sizes.

Perhaps on the configuration page, show a button to "re-evalute server base characteristics", which would include disk drive sizes.

  6. Add the ability to create new alerts

Instead of limiting the available alerts to a pre-defined list, allow users to create new alerts and threshold metrics based on customized queries. In my opinion, this is about the only glaring omission in the current version of sql Monitor.

  8. Improve the resolution of the analysis graphs

The analysis graphs don't plot enough points to be able to clearly pick out peaks and troughs in the data -- it all gets averaged out.

Absolutely. We’ve upped the resolution from 50 data points to 500 or so.
