Suggestions

Welcome to the Redgate SQL Monitor feature suggestions list. Tell us how we can improve SQL Monitor by voting on these suggestions or by submitting your own ideas.

This is the easiest way to make an impact on SQL Monitor’s roadmap. Check out the completed suggestions to see how your ideas have influenced us in the past. Please note that this list is one of multiple sources that drive our development, meaning that we will not always implement the highest-ranking suggestions.

To give your idea the greatest possible impact, please follow these guidelines:

  • Describe the goal you’re trying to accomplish, rather than a specific solution to get there
  • If you have a favoured solution, add it as a comment to your suggestion
  • Give us as much context as possible
  • Only make one suggestion per post. If you have multiple ideas, submit them in separate posts
  • Comment and vote on existing posts to develop the ideas — often the SQL Monitor team will initially stay quiet about new suggestions to see what you have to say!

If you have any questions visit the SQL Monitor forum.

In SQL Monitor, I want to...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Filter Top 10 queries/waits by database

I would like to see the top 10 queries by database sometimes instead of the entire instance.

      • Allow the pinning of availability groups to the Global Dashboard

I'd like to see the status of my AGs on the Global Dashboard without having to find them inside the server. Would also nice to see stats on latency on this widget.

          • Exclude offline databases from backup alerts

Exclude all offline data bases from the overdue backup alert as we do not have a need to backup an offline data base. For us if a data base is taken offline it's most likely because its been migrated to another server or no longer needed and will eventually be deleted.

              Add Server documentation such as:

              - app owners,
              - support type (24/7, next business day),
              - escalation contacts (clients to contact for unscheduled maintenances),
              - primary purpose (main application using the server, business function)
              - Add costum fields for server notes or setup instructions

              • Add Single Sign-On (SSO).

We would love to have Single Sign-On added so we can use CAS for authentication. This feature would really help make things easier even more so then LDAP/NTLM even... I know I been on a support ticket for weeks to have a "work around" be the answer.

                • Offer SQL Monitor as a Saas model

Would be great to offer sql monitor on a Saas model. $50 per server per month for example.
Purchasing software upfront is expensive for small/medium companies. This also offers more flexibility to add and remove licenses in line with how companies add and remove new servers.

                      • SQL instances which are part of Availability Group does show if it primary or secondary in Global Dashboard

When SQL instances which are in Availability Groups are being monitored, the global dashboard lists both the primary & secondary node.
However though it does have 'AG' badge but it does not say which is primary or secondary.
While looking at the SQL monitor it will key that we know upfront which is the primary instance and also when alerting it should say primary or secondary in the subject line.

This way we can create task automatically based on the alert notificatiopn

                          • Use base monitor service user account to authenticate with vcenter

When monitoring a vcenter deployment, it would be nice if the base monitor service could just delegate the credentials it is running as rather than entering them in the username and password boxes inside sql monitor.

                            • Re-fire alert notification if alert stays active

My initial problem was that an alert that was still active was marked as cleared, but I wanted the alert to 're-appear' as essentially it hadn't been fixed.

This then led me to thinking about any alerts that can move from Active to Ended. It would be useful to configure these is such a way that if they stay Active for a given period, then they re-fire. I understand that is what the multiple thresholds can be used for (especially if the thresholds define time periods) but in this case I may already be at High, there is no further…

                              • Exclude specific alerts from SQL SERVER ERROR LOG ENTRY alerts

We have certain tools (mainly infosec related) that generate a lot of entries in the SQL server error log as part of their normal operation creating a lot of alerts. The only way to identify these and thereby determine that they are 'expected' is to go into each alert individually and mark it as read. The ability to ignore certain errors based on error number, severity or message would add a lot of value to this feature.

                                  • display unlicensed servers in different color

We started with RedGate Monitoring and added all our SQL Servers. As a result we consumed too much licenses. Although there's a warning on the top of the screen for this, the unlicensed servers are reporting 'healthy' which is a little tricky (especially for non-dba it'ers) because you don't know the state.

I like to see the unlicensed servers in a different color ( for example gray) to see a better reliable overview

                                      • Long running query alerts and daylight saving time changes

many long running query alerts generated between 1 am and 2 am on Sunday 11/5, as the time change caused it to add an hour when calculating all the query times. Can the alert be adjusted to account for the time change?

                                        • Manually rerun a metric

When an alert pops up, after I fix the problem, I want to refresh the metric to ensure that it was fixed. There's no way to tell how often the data is refreshed.
